Annalakshmi is a great restaurant if you’re looking for delicious reasonably priced food with authentic South Indian flavours. They have one of the larger selections of dosas with prices ranging from $12 – $15. We recommend getting the Paneer Burji Dosa. This dosa is stuffed with marinated cottage cheese, sauteed onions and tomatoes.

It has the right mix of tangy and savouriness from the spices mixed into this dish. Plus, it’s served with three chutneys on the side (coconut, onion and tomato) which takes this dish to another level.

Dosa Twist is an amazing place for dosa in Toronto. The batter for their Rava Masala Dosa is spiced, so it gives the dish that kicks of flavour with every bite. We personally loved the dosa and the experience here. The price of their menu ranges from $4 – $11.

Plus, they have some interesting options such as chocolate dosa and fruit jam dosa. chocolate dosa and fruit jam dosa are both sweet dishes, while the Rava Masala Dosa is savoury. I tasted doses cooked on wooden as well as Coal fired furnaces. I found their doses equally tasty. My mind went back to India, when I first tasted their crunchy Rawa. Keep it up.”
“Loved the preparations - we had ordered Uttapam, Medu Vada and Masala Dosa. Chutneys were on point as well. The surprising element which I really liked was the addition of a sweet dish to the main courses 🙂”

4. Indian Spice Room

Indian Spice Room is a great place to get a taste of authentic Indian cuisine. The dishes are simple, but they’re oh-so flavorful and will leave you wanting more. The chef has over 20 years of experience cooking in restaurants, so you know you’re in good hands. Plus, they use local ingredients from farmer’s markets to prepare their meals.

The price ranges from $7 – $14 at this restaurant, which is a great deal considering the quality of the food. Our recommendation is the Manchurian Dosa. The Manchurian balls are a mix of Indian and Chinese topped with Hakka gravy and stuffed into a dosa. You’ll also get two chutneys and a lentil curry served as sides.

They serve up some of the best North and South Indian dishes in Toronto, and their dosa menu is definitely worth checking out. Prices range from $8 – $12, and there are a ton of different dishes to choose from.

Our personal favourite is the Paneer Dosa – it’s a savoury dish stuffed with mildly spiced cottage cheese, onions, and a specially made masala. “All dosas are amazing! Samba is so perfect! Must try their Paneer Dosa... my favourite! Yes the waiting is ridiculously long on weekends. But it is a sign how good the play is, isn’t it?.... So I say the best time is to dine during off peek hours either During Weekends between lunch and Dinner or Weekdays all together😅.... Will return.”
“One of the best vegetarian restaurants in town. Also best dosa in town. They have so many variations, you could eat something different everyday for easily two months. Chai is great as well. I highly recommend the paneer dosa.”

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Special dosas and thali menu available throughout the day! No downtown location
Menu items available for lunch on weekends

6. Annapurna Vegetarian

Annapurna is one of the older vegetarian restaurants in Toronto, having opened in 1974. It’s a great place to go if you’re looking for a hearty, filling meal. The Egg Dosa is one of our favourite dishes – it’s cooked in ghee and served with two eggs, fresh coriander, tamarind chutney and sambar. For $9.25, it’s generous portion size and goes great with a Lassi drink.

The Lassi is made with yogurt, cardamom rosewater and sugar, and has a unique flavour that you’ll love. If you’re looking for a delicious vegetarian meal option in Toronto, be sure to check out Annapurna!

“I only eat at two restaurants in Toronto. This is one of them. Anything I have had there is excellent, though I tend to gravitate to the Masala Dosai more often than not. Atmosphere is calm and peaceful, though right now during lockdown you can’t enjoy this aspect. They are completely set up for pickup or using one of the current delivery services.”

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Great spot for vegetarians Few complaints about food being bland
Peaceful environment

7. Udupi Palace

Udupi Palace is a great spot for vegetarian cuisine. The price of their menu ranges from $6 – $12, but the quality of the dishes more than makes up for it. We recommend getting the Ghee Paper Masala dosa.

Not only is the dosa thin and crispy, but because they used ghee in this dish, a richer type of butter adds a bit more oomph to this dish. The dosa is also stuffed with spiced potatoes and onions. For $12.50 this dish is a steal.

If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, the Set Dosa is a good option. This dish comes with 4 dosas and your choice of chutney or sambar. No matter what you order, you’re sure to enjoy your meal at Udupi Palace!

8. Subiksha Foods

Google/Neil Sharma

If you’re in the mood for some delicious and authentic Indian cuisine, then you’ve got to head on over to Subiksha Foods. They’ve got a great variety of dosa options to choose from, but we highly recommend trying the Mint Masala Dosa. This crispy savoury dish is elevated with the flavour of mint, both in aroma and taste. Plus, it comes with a side of sambar and chutney.

You’ll love how well these dishes complement each other. If you feel like the dish is too spicy, you can always cool off with a refreshing Mango Lassi drink. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!

“Absolutely the best dosa I've had in a very long time. Hands down better than any other dosa place I've been to in a 30km radius. The only issue I had if you could call it that was no option to tip while paying by card.I even asked the cashier if she could add it to the bill amount and she said we don't accept tips. Why not? Good service should be rewarded in my opinion”
“The dosas at this place never disappoint and so far best in GTA that I have tasted. Huge portions for great prices. My favourite is the ghee roast masala dosa. Be ready for 30 plus minute wait on the weekends but it is worth it!”

Quick service

9. South Indian Dosa Mahal

South Indian Dosa Mahal is a great choice when you’re in the mood for some delicious South Indian cuisine. The dosas here are some of the best around, and they have a wide variety of options to choose from.

We highly recommend the Fried Onion Dosa Platter – it’s gluten-free and vegan-friendly, and it comes with potato curry, eggplant tomato curry, sambar, and coconut chutney. The dosa itself is crunchy and has just the right amount of salt, making it a perfect dish for any occasion.

I had the potato dosa, which came fast and was so heavy full of tasty potato! I loved the coconut chutney a lot. Plus, there are great little fried snacks up front and I bought a bag of those too. These kinds of places are the places that make Toronto great.”
“Meh looking restaurants in downtown Toronto tend to always have the best food!! You gotta order the ghee spinach dosa!! A must. Sweet older lady and her family own this joint and there’s something good about that.”
