1) Ontario Place Drive-In

Right in the heart of downtown Toronto is its very own drive-in theatre at the beloved Ontario Place. The city’s beloved water park and concert venue is now screening movies and international film festivals at Ontario the Place Drive-in in lakeshore. Those like the Muslim International Film Festival (MIFF) and The Lavazza Drive-in International Film Festival hosted by the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) with CHIN Radio/TV have used this outdoor theatre overlooking Lake Ontario to bring films from all over the world to Toronto. The Lavazza Film Festival is returning for the second time and will be screening from June 27-July 17. Check out their website for other seasonal events and regular viewings.

2) CityView Drive-In

Though you can catch a screening here and there, the city’s premiere CityView Drive-In is Toronto’s newest outdoor event and concert venue. Due to social distancing measures during lockdown, CityView came into the rescue to provide a fully contactless entertainment experience for group activities like shows and movies we all missed out on. Apart from the beautiful, pink lit Toronto skyline you can catch local artists like Scott Helman or DVSN who were able to perform to hundreds safely in the summer of 2020. Purchase your tickets online in advance and come by!

3) 5 Drive-In

The 5 Drive-in will probably transport you into a Jetsons cartoon with its outdoor screenings and cute 50’s Space Age Diner. This popular site employs a large lot fit for 3-screen simultaneous viewing and a concession stand to get some snacks beforehand. The 5 Drive-In is the closest spot to watch a drive-in movie, which means it packs up fast. To get a good spot, make sure to arrive at least 45 min early!

4) The Stardust Drive in Theatre

This neat spot just north of Newmarket is the perfect distance to catch the newest movies in a 50’s style drive-in if you’re in the Markham or Scarborough area. The Stardust Drive in Theatre is a clean and quaint theatre that has a variety of movie snacks like chili cheese fries, onion rings and churros that are great to share. If you want to capture the sunset, open the back of your trunk and make sure to bring some bug spray, blankets, foldable chairs and sweaters for a comfy experience.

5) Mustang Drive-In Theatre

Just one hour away in Guelph is the Mustang Drive-In Theatre, which screens both current box office hits and classics. At this drive-in you can expect the iconic retro style in the small arcade and snack bar, friendly staff and cash-only payment. No outside food or drink is allowed in. Tickets can only be purchased on site, so make sure to arrive early to get a spot. Most drive-ins are just here for the summer, but the Mustang Drive-In even shows during Christmas time.

6) Starlite Drive In Theatre

Not to be mistaken for Stardust Drive in, Starlite Drive In is roughly one hour south of Toronto in Stoney Creek, Hamilton. Here, you can catch a double or even triple-feature with some hot snacks while you’re there. If you’re a car fanatic, you might even see some original 1970s Mustangs because Starlite is known to host classic car drive-ins by the Oldsmobile clubs of Ontario. Coming this September 2021, come by see over 100 classic cars lined up to watch on the silver screen.

7) Lindsay Twin Drive-In Theatre

Head to the Lindsay Twin Drive-In with your friends, family or even dog to catch an awesome sunset amidst your motion picture. This drive-in allows pets, as long as they are leashed, as well as bringing a few snacks from home. 8) Can-View Drive-In

The Can-View Drive-In is a pleasant outdoor theatre spot that is a great spot to visit if you’re driving around the Niagara region. Everyone from couples, your grandma and your pets are welcomed (just make sure to keep proper pet etiquette as always). They have probably the best admission deals with kids under age 6 getting in for free, a senior discount, and $14 Dusk to Dawn pack that can last you until the morning. Along with that, we recommend getting some of their delicious poutine for your show. They do accept all forms of debit, credit and cash payment but tickets can only be purchased on location, so be prepared to come a bit early.

9) Port Hope Drive In

Northeast of Oshawa is the Port Hope Drive In, a well-loved local spot that aims to support the Port Hope community and is a recurring co-organizer of the Durham Video Game Convention. Families and friends can catch one of the best old-fashioned movie experiences at this pet-friendly spot. No outside food or drink will be permitted, though!

The Sunset Barrie Drive-in Theatre is a go-to if you want that authentic vintage outdoor theatre experience. Themed concession buildings, an old school movie sign at the box office and a variety of cool, 50’s style illustrated posters fill this scenic drive-in spot. With 2-screen simultaneous viewing, you can catch a film after a long day of hiking Hardy Lake or swimming at Muskoka Beach Park. 12) Mustang Drive-In (PEC)

The Mustang Drive-In in Prince Edward County is a bit of a drive from Toronto, but well worth the trip as becoming one of the newer drive-ins changing the future of nostalgia. They are open for double screenings every Wednesday to Sunday at a fair price of $30 per carload of up to 5 people any age. If you’re coming by, make sure to get your tickets online and your snacks here as they don’t allow outside food or beverages. They love to show classics like Pulp Fiction and The Big Lebowski, but occasionally run the latest box office hits of the month. The Mustang Drive-In at PEC will give you the ultimate retro experience since they are also known to host great vintage trunk shows!

Only a 50 min drive away from Owen Sound is the local Hanover Drive-In Theatre with the best price for kids aged 6 to 12 at just $3. Families can come and enjoy a picturesque drive-in experience up north, with a screen placed as the background of an old-fashioned barn. This is a smaller outdoor theatre with a comforting atmosphere and great service from staff.
