Pai is a casual Northern Thai restaurant with two locations in downtown and uptown Toronto. Pai serves up authentic Thai dishes in a nice ambient setting. Most of the dishes are served tapa style with many options to share, which makes this an ideal place for dining as a group as you can try a bit of everything PAI has to offer.

The restaurant has a very nice and rustic design with plenty of seating. You will find wood, concrete, and even brick throughout the dining space which is brightly lit up but a variety of lamps hanging from the ceiling. There is also a bar area that includes an assortment of vintage Thai tapestry and collectibles. The space itself feels like a museum, as every corner has something unique to see.
The menu has a variety of dishes from the more traditional Thai salad and noodle dishes to some unique tapas-style plates or even some grilled meats if you want to keep it simple. They have many vegan options as well which include a variety of curries and stir fry. All the dishes are affordable ranging from about $5 to $20 which is very reasonable.

I personally enjoyed their Green Curry which is packed with flavour and has a very unique fishy taste. The green curry is served in a fresh young coconut as a bowl which made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. You can adjust the spice level of the curry to suit your preference which is nice, as most Thai don’t really have that as an option unless you specifically request for it.

Another delicious dish on their menu is the Oxtail. I was surprised by the level of flavour and amount of meat in this dish, as well as how tender it was considering it’s coming from a cow. I recommend pairing this dish with rice to soak up all the sauce and bits and pieces that come with this dish! Make sure to call ahead as this dish is not always on the menu.

Finally, Pai’s famous sangria is the perfect drink to go along with your meal. The drink is sweet and easy to drink, plus it comes with a lot of fun tropical fruits like pineapple and lychee in it.
Pai is a great Thai restaurant in Toronto that serves up authentic flavours at reasonable prices in both small and big portions. The ambiance is very rustic, making it an ideal place for dates, friends or even family dinners. I would definitely recommend trying out this spot when you are in the area!
