Rayhon Kebab is a halal restaurant that serves authentic Persian cuisine in the Richmond Hill area. This restaurant primarily serves takeout, however, they do offer very limited seating if you do choose to dine-in. Locals from around the area often flock to this humble little eatery for their delicious traditional Persian dishes that are made with fresh and high-quality ingredients. This place is often packed, but it’s sure to be worth the wait.
Since this is a take-out restaurant the number of seating is limited, with only a few stool seatings available. The space itself is simple and to the point, as when you walk in you’ll be immediately greeted by the ordering counter. The menu is clearly displayed behind the counter, and once you decide what you’d like, the staff will immediately prepare it for you. Not much else can be said about the space except that it’s optimized to get customers in and out quickly.
Similar to the interior design, their menu is also simple and to the point. The menu includes kebab plates, skewers, salads, and side orders for those who want extra protein with their meal. The menu uses a lot of Farsi terms, so don’t be afraid to ask the staff for help if you don’t understand something.
A popular dish here is their Koobideh. Koobideh is a kabob that’s made with beef or lamb or a combination of the two. Highly recommend getting the Koobideh as a plate because it’s the best bang for your bucks as it comes with a generous portion of grilled tomatoes and saffron white rice. The Koobideh here is always prepared fresh and comes with a burst of flavour from the spices they use. If you like Iranian or Afghani kebabs, then you’ll love the kebabs here. With such a powerful flavour from the Koobideh, the saffron rice is key to add a nice balance of flavour to this already delicious dish.
Another favourite is the Gheimeh. This is an Iranian stew that’s made with mutton or beef, split peas, tomatoes, and onions. This heartwarming stew is the perfect accompaniment to the Koobideh as it’s also very flavourful but in a different way.
A drink that goes great with the food here is the Sabzdhaneh Ayran yogurt drink. This is a popular drink in the Middle East that pairs exceptionally well with savoury dishes. This is not your typical yogurt as it has a savoury flavour that’s surprisingly refreshing during a hot summer’s day.
If you are looking to try authentic Persian food for the first time, there’s no better place to do it than Rayhon Kebab. A word of advice, if you do decide to give this place a try, make sure to call ahead as this place is often packed with hungry customers. If you are in the Richmond Hill area, make sure to stop by Rayhon Kebab for some delicious Persian food.
