Rosetta McClain Gardens is one of Toronto’s best gardens known for its wonderful location along Lake Ontario in Scarborough. The garden features a centrepiece boulder surrounded by a wonderful arrangement of hedges and flowers, as well as a plethora of flower varieties. The garden is 23-acre in size and is named for its former owner, Rosetta McClain, who died and left the land to her husband, who then donated it to the city of Toronto in her memory. This historic site has a well-kept garden where you can wander among lovely flowers, lake panoramas, a rock fountain, and a pergola. If you’ve never been to the Gardens of Toronto, make Rosetta McClain on top of your list.

Things to Do

Walking around the Rosetta gardens is one of the best ways to get some fresh air. The garden is packed with flowers and fascinating trees, some of which resemble carving forks, making it a popular location for nature and wedding photography. The trees also make an excellent shelter for picnics, and there are several seats to relax on. The garden offers fantastic trails to go for a nice walk while exploring flowers and wildlife.Ā 

The garden comes with the perks of a stunning view of Lake Ontario on the south side. You can stroll along the bluffs, take photos, and enjoy the clear water.

Biodiversity

You can observe a lot of migratory bird species from Rosetta McClain. Common birds include the great crested flycatcher, chestnut-sided warbler, merlin, and many others. Insects such as bees, wasps, dragonflies, and monarch butterflies can also be seen in the garden. Other animals you can spot include squirrels, raccoons and chipmunks ( which you can feed) and North American red fox.
Some of the flower species the garden features include tulip, sunflowers, dahlia pinnata, summer lilac, white rose, and common sneezeweed, making the garden colourful and fresh.

Parking

There is public parking on-site at 5 Glen Everest Rd, Scarborough, which is a bit small and holds approximately up to 30 cars, so arrive early to save a spot.Ā
