Customer Reviews:

“Fantastic place. We did the chef’s table. The food and service were top notch, every course was interesting and the portions are very filling. My favorite dish was the oxtail tortellini. Also their sourdough bread is the best I’ve had in Toronto. I usually end up hungry after a fine dining experience but here it was perfect. Watching the inner workings of the kitchen was also an experience that I enjoyed immensely. My partner’s family is in the restaurant business, his brother runs a 1 star Michelin restaurant in Amsterdam and he was impressed, so in a word, this place is delightful. We will be back!”
—Sarah R.

“Enjoyed a Lovely anniversary dinner here. Interesting modern take on Roman dishes. Service was impeccable. Atmosphere is modern Mediterranean with Terracotta tiles, natural woods and leathers offering an easy casual vibe with upscale service. We had the $75 chefs menu – food was executed well with creativity like the farro burrata salad with citrus, and the gnocchi with smoked ricotta. I’d recommend skipping the cacio e peppe as it’s just ok and they have so much more on offer. Their desserts were to die for. All in all a great night out, delicious food and a lovely atmosphere – we will be back!”

“I highly recommend Aburi Hana to celebrate any special occasion! My favourites were the Sea Urchin & A5 Wagyu Beef. During the dinner, you’ll experience various flavours and textures all throughout Japan. Expect to stay 2.5 hours to enjoy your meal. While we didn’t order sake, the Sake director recommended us different refreshers to go along with the meal and they were SO delicious. The staff at Aburi Hana were kind, attentive, and welcoming. “Alo is a wonderful experience all around and has been awarded a Michelin star in 2022. The tasting menu was well balanced and had some amazing and deep flavours. All of the dishes were executed to perfection and all of the ingredients were fresh and high quality.”
—Bernard S.

“The food was fantastic,  plating on point.  What I love is how every dish has described with ingredients and origin.  Service was top-notch as usual.  Never being there before, I would have given 5 stars.  However, being there before gave me a comparison.  I noticed some ingredients were not as premium as the first visit, and some dishes were not as mind-blowing as before.  Taken that into consideration, the value for the experience was nowhere near of that 3 years ago on our first visit.  After the Michelin star and inflation now has cost more than double what it was back then.”
—Eric

—Ray L.

“Alobar is a really great Michelin addition. Being part of the Alo Group, you can expect great food, warm hospitality, and an overall positive experience. The main positive is that it’s not a huge fight for reservation/time commitment. It’s more than possible to come in for a relatively last minute intimate soiree, drinks, date, etc. I still think that the mille-feuille here is one of the best in the city and is something I get every time! Hands down though, their star dish has to be the foie gras parfait!”

Staff were very attentive and knowledgeable of the ingredients. They also have a non-alcohol drinks pairing for those who do not drink alcohol. Very thoughtful. The Hojicha tea was impressive, tastes just like the one in Japan. The ambience was the best. All the tables were separated quite far away that provides enough privacy for each of us. “Transport yourself to Japan! We had an excellent experience having the most fresh, and authentic Japanese experience right here in Toronto. One of the tastiest things were the eggplants that were literally grown along the Kamo River in Kyoto tasting like pure heaven! Kei and his family were warm and lovely to speak with. They are also super accommodating and made me a meal without any dairy or land animals! Can’t wait to go again.”

“Truly an experience where you’re transported outside of Toronto and into a traditional Kaiseki in Japan. From the moment you walk to the front of the restaurant the cherry blossoms outside the building bloom (as i went in late April. Just as they were blooming). There’s a magnificent entrance and walk to your dining room. As for the meal. The flavors slowly build up as the night goes on, each dish adding a bit more complexity than the last. My favourites were the scallops, the mushrooms dish (I don’t even like mushrooms!) and the coconut nicuatole. Definitely an elevated Mexican cuisine that you don’t often see in Toronto! While the tasting menu was great, I’m excited to return and try other things on the menu. The restaurant was filled with a pleasant smokey aroma and lights were dimmed to give it a cozy atmosphere.”

Faqs About Michelin Star Restaurants

Michelin star restaurants are selected through a meticulous evaluation process conducted by anonymous Michelin inspectors. These inspectors visit and assess restaurants based on a set of criteria, including the quality of the ingredients used, the mastery of cooking techniques, the creativity of the dishes, and the consistency of the overall dining experience. Dining at a Michelin star restaurant is often considered a special and unique experience, justifying the premium prices for the exceptional culinary journey provided.
While Michelin star restaurants are often associated with fine dining, the Michelin Guide does recognize a range of dining establishments. Michelin stars can be awarded to restaurants of various styles and cuisines, including casual eateries, gastropubs, and even street food vendors, provided they meet the guide’s strict criteria for exceptional food quality and dining experiences.

To identify Michelin star restaurants in your destination, refer to the official Michelin Guide, available online or in print.
